The School of Education grew out of the Department of Education which was one of the first departments when Uganda Christian University was established in 1997. When the University had just opened, all departments were running under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. By the mid-2000s, the Department of Education had grown into the Faculty of Education and Arts, with three departments and two Units: Mass Communication, Education and Languages. The Units included Fine Art and Design and Library and Information Science. The School is nearly making twenty years – in 2022 – and her alumni celebrate the blessing of growth and development as excellent, faithful educators, researchers and leaders in educational institutions both nationally and internationally.
Currently, the School of Education runs 15 programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels all of which are housed in the Department of Education and the Department of Languages and Literature. The Department of Languages and Literature hosts four units: BAED, BED and MA in Literature, Library and Information Science, Uganda Study Programme (USP); which provides robust exchange programmes for international students and the Writing Center – which is a service unit to Uganda Christian University community
