Programme Description Details

This programme is intended for:

(i). Current and prospective educational managers/administrators in educational institutions and departments of education at both district and national levels

(ii). Professional teachers who wish to become lecturers in universities and other tertiary institutions.

The vision of the programme is to produce better teachers for better schools with the aim of preparing educational managers for thoughtful productive lives and effective service in education.

Admission Requirements

Regular UCU requirements, specifically, candidates admitted to the programme must be holders of one of the following:

(i) an honours degree in Education (BED) or (BAED/BSc.ED)

(ii) an honours BA/BSc degree with a Diploma in Education

(iii) an honours BA/BSc degree with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

(iv) He/she must also have passed both written and oral interview conducted by UCU.

Duration of the Programme

The Programme is offered for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years. The programme shall be structured either in course units or modules.

Objectives

(i) Enable the candidates acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge in their field of study and be able to apply it to the relevant professional practice.

(ii) Equip candidates with relevant and appropriate research methods, strategies and techniques that may be applied in their educational field at different levels.

(iii) Equip candidates with skills to deal with an increasingly complex educational environment and changing job demands.

(iv) Enable candidates to acquire knowledge and skills that will enhance effectiveness and efficiency in their fields of study.
